DraftTwoWriMo, Day 1

I finished the first draft of my latest novel around Halloween of last year, and frankly, I expected to be done the second draft months ago. But between research, re-envisioning, and plotting, I haven't done a whole lot of writing of the second draft. Some for CampNaNo in April, but then life came a-knockin'.

So I decided a few weeks back to just plunge in and do it. And do it fast, because nothing motivates like a looming deadline, and I'm going to have to edit it afterwards anyway. So my plan is to stitch together what text I've written and new words, and pound out the draft in 30 days.

I'm not going to wait for NaNo to do it, because I'd like to have it done before Halloween of this year. Plus, NaNo kind of lends itself to a Word Count-or-bust mentality that doesn't focus on plot and completeness. I have a tentative word count goal of 80,000 for this thirty-day spree, but the real goal is to complete as best I can every chapter in my outline.

And in fact, the 80K is a limit not a count goal. I have 34 chapters, and I won't allow any chapter to go over 2353 words unless another chapter can spare a few. No sense overwriting.

Okay, all that said, today I worked mostly on dialogue for multiple chapters. Dialogue is almost always my initial "layer" in writing something new, and though I have some chapters half-written, there are more than a few that I am writing now for the first time.
