I am trying to describe the range of analysis styles that people used on the ATPo discussion board for my new website, something besides "philosophical" (which is a given) and "literary." There were all sorts of interesting angles on analyzing the show over the years, but the words to describe them are escaping me....

Since Hero with a Thousand Faces is full of Freud you can certainly claim "psychological."

I don't know that any of the professional jargon was ever used, but I think we discussed how teens behave in groups on occaision. That's "sociological."

I can think of one or two other things, but mostly for times we drifted off topic. ;o)

A lot of those drifts off-topic were pretty revealing of psychology. Just not the show(s) characters' psychology.

Meta seems to be a catch-all phrase these days but I think it applies to a lot of discussions on the board.

I think it is a word that will go over the heads of visitors to my author website, though--assuming they are even parts of some online fandom, they may never have heard of that term, and I am assuming most are not part of any online fandom.

I'm kind of looking for specifics, like CW offered above, e.g., "critical theory, politics".

Jeez, this AM I couldn't recall the phrase 'critical theory." Which is why I need HALP!

I'd say critical theory, with heavy doses of psychological and anthropological analysis. I think Caroline and I were the only ones with Continental analysis styles, but if "meta" would go over people's heads, "continental" would leave them even more baffled.

Though truth is, I'm still back on the fact that that page is so...2002. Holy crap, if I had the time for another project, I would wrest the original code away from you and UPDATE that site. Oh, it burnssss ussss, it doessss.

I had a server provider that didn't do CSS, so I started removing the < head > code and realized that would take forever to reformat. Putting it back is on the "to do" list. Has been since I switched providers years back...

Types of analyses? Other than philosophical and psychological: feminist, historical, mythical/philological, postcolonial, and gay/lesbian.

Good ones!
Philological! Maybe I'll just say, "linquistic."

You've already used most of the words, words, words I think of. Although, not useful to you, but we practiced a lot of phrenology. We massaged our heads a lot and found bumps.

I would like to read a phrenological analysis of some of the Buffyverse characters!
