Good Reads

So I'm setting myself up on Good Reads, which is proving more difficult than it should be. 'Cause there are books

(1) I own, but read so long ago, I don't remember if I liked them or not,

(2) I think I remember reading, but that was so long ago, I am not sure if I read them, or maybe it was my sister that read them, or my best friend in junior high....

(3) I read during that period of time when I was poor and living in San Francisco and got all my new reads from the library, so I didn't keep a record of them,

(4) I own, but for the life of me, can't remember if I read, or if I just bought them intending to read them but haven't,

(5) I own them, read them, maybe even liked them, but don't want to admit it,

(6) I'm pretty sure I only saw the movie. But maybe I read the book. Or maybe not. If it's the former, it's tough to judge a book by its movie.

(7) I read, I hated... do I dare list it to let everyone know of the hate, or risk giving it the attention it doesn't deserve?

It is interesting to see your list.

My reading tastes are such I doubt it be worth it for me to do that. Once the books are of a certain overall quality, a persons likes and dislikes shed more light on the person than on the books themselves.

Cool to see Dub is doing it, though.

By the way, I think you have Prisoner of Azkaban on twice and I didn't see Chamber of Secrets.

I was on a clicking spree. It's quite possible.

I am very familiar with all of these, which is why I don't admit I'm on Good Reads *g*. I am particularly familiar with 5 and its variant 5a - I've had this on my TBR pile for ages but I daren't read it and confess I own it on Good Reads!

I have less (5)'s than other people seem to. Hard to judge, though, when no one is 'fessing up.

honestly I mostly only put the new things on my goodreads but I DO put up bad ratings for ones i think deserve it. if I didn't read more than a chapter or two I don't mention it.

I only put older things on there if I suddenly remember them (or I'm trying to win the next in the series from the giveaways)

I am apparently trying to remember every book I ever read. I suspect that I am trying to qualify for librarian status so I can add my book to their list and start an author page. *smacks myself*

Either that, or I'm being my usual obsessive-compulsive self.

snort. actually I have an author page. It pretty much did it automatically for me (under the name Jana denardo if you want to check it out. my main goodreads is the same name as this journal)

It will do it automatically for me, too, as soon as I can get them to add my book to their list. I tried to look it up by ISBN, but they had no record of it.

ah yes, there is a way to add a book but i'm not sure how it's done

You need to be a "librarian."

ah or already an author apparently. keep adding the books. that weird amazon number is probably not helping matters

I often think about setting up there, but never get around to. Want to hear what you think about Galileo.

Since Galileo's Dream is as dense as my forthcoming novel, it may take me a while to wade through it. But I like KSR, so hopefully it will be good.

That's part of my issue. I hate those books, but I hate negativity even more. Easier to ignore them.

So far it just seems like a book nerd club.

For all your reasons, plus the time I'd use to set this up, I could actually be reading. That's why I haven't gotten one.

I do it when I'm bored at work and can't be reading (anything other than the intertubes).

I am hoping it will motivate me to read more. I have been so lax at that in recent years, and it's effecting my writing.

Friended you on GR.

Learning from other people's mistakes is always fun. You get to be smug at the same time you're learning.

Which is why I don't brand my writing "romance" or "erotica" even though it contains lots of both: the sex parts last a paragraph or two, and I think that makes them sexier.

Erotica is often unintentionally hilarious

Most of it is, to me. Which is why most of it doesn't interest me. Of course, maybe I'm getting old. Or possibly, I'm just getting laid and don't need other people's sex anymore.
