I'm still here. Haven't flown the coop yet. In fact, you'll probably hear more from me while I'm on vacation than you will right now, with me scrambling to shop, pack, and get work stuff under control before I head out. Not to mention? I'm totally fatigued right now. I need the vacation-before-the-vacation.

I'm not taking my laptop with me on the trip just 'cause I don't want to risk it getting damaged or stolen. I am going to feel utterly naked, I'm telling you. I've been stocking up on puzzle books, a few novels, a deck of cards, and printing out a few key story scene ideas I want to write long hand. If I LJ, it will be from hotel computers or internet cafes (do they still supply computers at those places if you don't have one?)

And I'm going to try a little long-hand journaling. Haven't done that in ten years. Before that, I was a twenty-plus year journaler.

I have Dreamwidth invite codes, in case there's a single person who reads my LJ who doesn't have one.

enjoy your trip. I think not taking the laptop is probably a good thing considering the sort of travel intensive vacation you're looking at.

Lugging around that thing is always a pain, especially going through security. But usually, it's worth it, once I get settled in wherever I'm going. But there is a lot of plane rides on this trip, and despite what my mom believes, that lap top is not a part of my anatomy like Locutus of the Borg.

oh that's just funny. I am taking mine but I'm going to one hotel and staying there though the flight out there is going to be somewhat sucky

I hope your vacation-before-your-vacation gives you time to relax and breathe! And I hope your anxiety is a bit better. When I went to Europe, I fumbled my way through more than one airport--but I survived! I just told myself, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things if I miss a flight or a tour? I'm still here, I'll still get there eventually, and I'm still having fun. *hugs*

I'm sure you'll find internet cafes with computers! They probably cater to all kinds of tourists who can't bring their laptops with them. :)

There are a few tours I will be very disappointed if I miss, particularly Chichen Itza, Teotihuacan, and Machu Picchu.

I remember when my mom and I went to the Mediterranean, we had a tour planned for Pompeii. We started the tour, but didn't finish because it started raining and they herded us all onto the bus. I was angry.

Later, we went to England and the highlight there was to be Stonehenge. It was a gorgeous day, and we saw all of it we wanted to see, and I was happy.

It makes a difference.

Luckily, this weekend is a three-day weekend for us USers. I hope to sleep through most of it!

I hope you have a blast!

I'm curious if you think your long hand writing will be markedly different from the typed stuff.

I don't think so. For me, my writing is effected by taking sufficient time away from any writing at all, or taking my time writing something, not the medium I'm using to write.

SoulfulSpike has been asking about you. We both would like to have lunch with you sometime after you get back, so you can tell us all about your trip. ;o)

It may be the middle or end of July before things are non-crazy enough.

Ok, I'll let her know when I talk to her next.

Puzzlebooks and cards? Yikes, that's what I'd take. ;o)

I've been hauling all of my unfinished (and finished, actually, since I backed up my important stuff to it) writing around in a Nook. Convenience-wise, it has surpassed my expectations. That might work for you.

Ah, another gadget that might get stolen. I think I'll revisit that after my trip.

I brought my BlackBerry. This was back when I had a corporate data plan and could roam in Europe without worrying about paying the bill! It was such a lifesaver, not just internet-wise but 'sense-of-safety'-wise.

I will publish the results of this experiment. Assuming I am not catatonic.
