TeeVee report

It's been hard keeping up with the television when watching it with the sound on having to pay actual attention to plot developments makes it impossible to pound out the word count. So I'm always off a few days from the flist in Dexter, even though my Source is quite punctual (thanks, Source!) So far, I am finding this season intriguing. (no spoilers on this weeks ep please--haven't yet watched).

I caught up with Criminal Minds this weekend in a marathon of episodes. I've been DVRing them and not watching, waiting for the jury to come in on how awful the season must be with bad casting decisions (the jury being those on my flist still watching). So far, the jury hasn't seemed ultra-annoyed, so I dove in before my DVR ate all the episodes despite my "plz to be saving forevar" setting.

The writers of the show have gone out of their way to make JJ's exit as problematic as it would be in real life. Then episode where she left was so full of meta aimed at the network suits who made the decision to let the actress go, cleverly disguised as fictional FBI suits. And since then, the team has had to scramble around the hole that's left behind. Kudos for that. Other than that, there's a spate of new writers, leading to some unevenness in quality, but it's still recognizably comforting Criminal Minds.

The other show on my list that's Not HGTV Whut is my new Netflix toy, Numb3rs. It's like CSI of old--snack food for geeks, lots to chew on as long as you don't worry too much about the artificial ingredients. Plus, Navi Rawat. Yis.

I haven't been watching Criminal Minds at all except for the farewell JJ episode. I'm not sure I'll ever go back to watching, unless there are truly stand-out eps (character-wise, not scary serial killer-wise) you can recommend?

Numb3rs is great fun! I really did love all the characters. How far along are you?

I hate feeling guilty about watching Criminal Minds but I do because not only did they let go of JJ to save money they're cutting Paget way back as well and Garcia doesn't ever take that much air time. I feel like I should just stop watching since they are making some very anti-female decisions at the corporate level

So far, I don't see any cutting back of Paget that I notice, and Garcia is getting featured even more as she takes over some of JJ's duties. I expected to notice the cutting back, or to hear it griped about on flist LJs but I haven't noticed either.

That's good to hear! Maybe I'll get around to watching if you think this season is still good. It's not that I'm boycotting the show on purpose, but it *has* been easier to watch Castle, which is bouncy fun, than to dive back into gritty heavy stuff with Criminal Minds.

CM still has a lot of violence-towards-women unsubs, which is never easy to watch, but they almost invariably show those women as possessing courage and agency, and I must say that Garcia has been especially watchable on the Team side of the show.

it was in one of the entertainment write ups. her hours have drastically slashed (But maybe they changed their mind). Gah forget where but it was in the newspaper

It doesn't seem that way to me, but I didn't sit there with a timer, either.

I agree it hasn't yet, just relaying the insider info on negiotations this year

I'd heard that last summer, along with the JJ leaving thing, which is why I DVR'd it up until now to let braver souls pass the verdict before I watched and/or deleted.

yeah here it is

they were both cut. It seems the only reason she's still here is the sheer number of fans who took offense
