So I went into my LJ settings and disabled pingbacks, but then today, when I was pimping my orlon_window community on a_better_lie, it posted pingback-bot comments to the first episode of O_W, which I linked to in my post.

O_W is a community connected to my paid LJ account, so shouldn't I have a way to turn off pingback notifications to my comms (or have then sent only to my email, not posted as comments)? When I went in to change the settings for O_W, the pingback setting was not available.

Or is this one of those things that LJ hasn't worked on yet that is annoying people?

Yeah, I've gotten the impression that the pingback thing is broken, but they're too busy ignoring the vast army of complaints regarding the Facebook fiasco to do anything about it.

LOL! When I went to delete the pingback_bot comments, it asked me if I wanted to ban pingback_bot from posting on my comm. Think it would work??

No idea. Do share the results, though.

Eh, I decided to delete them instead. I actually would prefer not to ban the pingback_bot, but I would like to still get email notifications if someone pimped me in LJ.

I think I read that communities were going to work differently from journals. So, no, I don't think they care that you can't turn the pingbacks to O_W off. At least not yet.

I honestly don't mind knowing if someone on LJ pimped my comm. But I'd like it in email, not a posted comment.

Only you can see the 'pingback as comment' I believe.

If I recall, they did appear gray-ish before I deleted them. But I wasn't really paying a lot of attention to that.

Yes, I tested it with my LJ and a dummy LJ account I have and I got the impression no one else could see the 'gray comment.' Since you don't want to see it there anyway, good ridance.

yeah, they're aware it's a problem. they prioritized the facebook fiasco to deal with first
Sep. 15th, 2010 02:34 am (UTC)
Well, that is a slightly bigger deal.
