Computer help

I am having an issue with Google on Firefox at work (PC). Every time I do a Google search, I have to copy and paste the URL of the links into a new tab because the links themselves get redirected by various irrelevant web pages. How do I stop it from doing this, short of clearing everything else and starting fresh?

Google doesn't do this at home on my trusty Mac.....

I had that a few weeks back and had to resort to a system restore. However, I left my virus program running, so the system restore couldn't complete, and the only thing it ended up changing was actually the problem itself. It was quite a bit of luck, actually.

A system restore for the *entire computer*? It's just one browser application that's giving me a problem.

Maybe if I clear out the cookies?

Sorry, I got called away. Yes, I tried all the obvious stuff first. Cookies, cache, temp files, virus check, malware check, reinstall of the stupid browser . . . nada. sevenjetc said she had cleared hers up with a system restore, so I backed up everything to CD and reluctantly gave it a try. However, by then it was 3am and I was tired and pissy, so I forgot to turn off AVG and fell asleep. In the morning, I had a message about a failed system restore, but instead of trying it again, I just tried my browser, and all was well, so there it ended.

Well, I cleared out a bunch of cookies and did a virus scan, including removing previously-quarantined files and that seems to have done the trick, for now.

I have an anti-virus program that runs regularly. Time to use its special features, I suppose.

Off topic, but I was just this afternoon trying to remember where I'd seen that icon!

I agree that it is probably some kind of malware on the PC. If it's a work machine, it's probably quickest to get your IT staff to wipe it and start from scratch.

I am contemplating a computer upgrade....

Also, if it's infected with malware there may be something there doing worse than redirecting Google links.

I'm running the virus scan right now, but recent full scans revealed nothing. I'll try the extension thing. I get frequent updates from Firefox.

Thanks!
