I finally, finally finished the latest Dresden Files novel last night.

So, OK, Harry got shot by that creepy man and woman vampire couple that's been trying to assassinate him throughout the whole book, right? But aren't they Red Court vampires? So shouldn't they have died when their entire race was wiped out?

And I'm fairly certain, but those of you who actually pay attention to this stuff can tell me, this is not the last Dresden Files novel, right? Just a cliff-hanger that's actually kind of lame, if a tad shocking-but-in retrospect-not-unexpected? Because, at the very least, our plucky Harry has to find a way out of his deal with Mab....

it's a lame assed ending that really really made me angry, But actually I think he was shot by someone else. My money is on marcone's crew

It was the voices he heard, a man and a woman's, that made me go, huh?

And yeah, if it is a cliff-hanger, it's lame, since it's not all that suspenseful. If it's the last book in the series, it's the kind of ending I loathe with a firey vengeance.

i didn't see the man and a woman's voices but I was reading fast hoping to getting to him and Murphy getting it on...

but no, it's not the last. there's another one already in the works called Ghost Story or something. And I'm very very annoyed with it all

From what I've seen the series is supposed to run 20+ books. And I find myself wondering if Harry was shot by 'friendly fire' to end his time as the Winter Knight.

That would certainly be more interesting.

No I think he is really dead, like a parrot. The next five book will then be about his apprentice Molly, the first one will be called The Revenge of Molly after about five books, Molly will take Harry daughter as an apprentice and we follow her development from then.

Nope, he is really dead, as you say, but the next books in the series deal with the adventures of Ghost!Harry, who must kill monsters while in incorporeal form while he seeks out his killers to wreak vengeance.

The hit was more Kincaid-style, though I wouldn't say for certain that's him. Yeah, Spike and Dru (or the Eebs, whatever) got creamed with the rest of the Red Court.

The male and female voices--the male one was Harry remembering Cassius's death curse from Dead Beat. The female one is still a mystery, though I'm putting my money on his mother.

Butcher's promised something like twenty books, ending with an "apocalyptic trilogy," so I'd say Harry's not exactly Going Into That Good Night at the moment. It can be next year, plz?

I just hope he doesn't come back as a ghost. For one thing, he needs to face the consequences of his choice to become the Winter Knight.

Well, he got shot, and started on that near-death road, but I bet someone pulls him out of the drink and does some nifty CPR magic on him.

Hence the lame lack of suspense.
