Here is the main problem I have with Dreamwidth. I've been following their news blog, and they are a bunch of code-dweebs like me who believe in what they are doing and are having fun. I find it difficult to resist their sinister attraction.

The problem is that I'm having a tough time finding an excuse not to cross-post.

Well, I saw this post on DW, but had to comment here, so it seems to be working

Except for the part where I need to insert manual links to comment here.

*sigh*. I really don't want my comments in two places, and I'm not ready to cross over to having comments there.

Well, I'm still reading you on both sites, so I just made a mental note to comment when I got around to reading lj

I'm considering making my layouts identical and editing my comment links so as to sneakily disguise the fact that they're being redirected.

If you are posting from Dreamwidth intending people to comment on LJ, though, there's no auto-comment links, and if you insert them into the text, they will appear on LJ as well, which looks...weird.

Not necessarily. When you edit your entry on Dreamwidth, you can deselect the "crosspost this" ticky box, which will prevent your edit from distributing to LJ.
