I enjoyed the season opener of Lost muchly last night.

I was kind of worried, after all the speechifying in the 5th season finale, and the voice-over speechifying in the Lost specials that aired prior to the new season, that they were actually going to go through with some idiot rewriting of history do-over thing. At least, I am assuming the "flash-otherwards" in this episode were to a what-might-have-been scenario, rather than some alternate universe place. I'm glad they didn't fall prey to the confused notion that if we can't change the past, we have no free will at all, therefore attempting to change the past is some noble act of the human spirit crap. I have always dug time travel stories where characters go back in time, they do whatever they damned well please, and they discover that their actions were all part of what always happened anyway. This is why the third Harry Potter book is my favorite of the entire collection.

Anyway, so speculation on my part, I am content to see the answers that unfold in this new season.

There has always been some interest in the Whooshing sound effect for flashbacks and flashforwards. If you noticed in these episodes, they have turned into the swishing ultrasound noises.

Return of the babies?? We do have the Jesus rebirth/ressurection of Saiyid. Is Jacob inside Saiyid now? Who knows?

Maybe Claire and her baby will have a significant role again?

I do think Sayid is back with us due to Jacob-possession. I just hope there is something of real Sayid in there.

I was thinking that what's going on is a sort of Schroedinger's Castaways thing - the bomb split the timeline in two, with the possible exception of a few things (like Jacj's father's coffin and Desmond, which for some reason can't exist in both realities, and so got jerked out of the 'revised' timeline and into the original one at the point where Flight 815 did/didn't crash. But I'm ready to be proven wrong...

Lots of possibilities. Except for the possibility that today is next Tuesday already.

I was wondering if the explosion caused a split in the timestream, so that both realities coexist. It does seem as if there's some seepage btwn. them, w/characters thinking they might know each other in the reset reality & Miles's message from Juliet saying "It worked" in the still-on-the-Island reality. I was also surprised that Jack didn't ask someone from the airline where Desmond was (presumably to be told there hadn't been any passenger by that name on the plane...maybe he's not supposed to get clued in to that level yet).

And some stuff was just stupid, like that the marshal, suspicious as he was, didn't think, "hey, how come I'm not hearing pissing sounds?" when Kate was in the bathroom stall. Please.
