Great Aunt Masq

Got this in my email this morning from my mom:

"To the new great-aunt and great-uncle. Jeremy called me at 1:30 a.m. to tell me that Jayden had arrived safely. He is 7 Pounds, 2 ounces, and looks a lot like Allison, but you can see jeremy in him also. She started having contractions very severe ones about 8 pm, and they went to the hospital -anyhow, she hardly had any labor there and gave birth right away - don't have the timing down, but it looks like another November birthday. Doe was there, but was still in the parking lot at the moment of birth, so she missed that. He is going to send me pictures over the internet. Love, Great grandma"

Sorry my sister missed the birth of her grandchild since she is quite the obstetrics nurse, but maybe that's for the best, too! ; )

How do you feel about being a great aunt? It was a bit startling for me the first time. Of course, now that one of my great nieces is married, I could be a great-great uncle in a couple of years.

Actually, it's pretty not-weird, but perhaps that's because I'm only a great aunt, not a grandmother. I don't know what my sister might be feeling. The only thing that unsettles me in this situation at all is that I wish my nephew would have waited a few years before "knocking up his girlfriend", but 22 is better than 17 or something.

I've had friends who became grandmothers in their mid-thirties, and at least it's not that!

Wow! Congratulations! Sounds like a good birth, too. Lucky mom, lucky baby. Happiness to all.

Yeah, I've heard stories about some pretty awful first baby deliveries. This one sounds fairly untraumatic.

Mazel tov, Great-Aunt Masq! I'm glad things went well, although "very severe" doesn't exactly sound like fun. At least that didn't last long, & all involved came through it OK! I hope Jeremy & Allison are in a decent situation these days.

About young grandmothers, one of my cousins eloped at age 16 & became a grandmother at...I don't remember, I think 43, maybe younger. She & her (2nd, & much better) husband were done w/childrearing pretty early in life...which has some advantages. @>)

I think it will be a bit of a struggle for them, due to their age and financial status, but they have a supportive family around them.

I'm glad to hear that 2nd part (& perfect icon there!). I remember your earlier posts about your nephew, & the later ones about how that's changed, but I was a little concerned.
