Family stuff

Elder MasqMom is giving her first sermon on Sunday, with a Father's Day theme. I am going to attend in support, then afterward, we are going to go visit the memorial park where Dad is. All in all, an emotional day. But then this morning, I get a voicemail from my mom warning me that one of the hymns during the service is going to be "Amazing Grace," so I'd better "remember to bring some Kleenex."

I had to chuckle at that a bit. The song has a lot of personal meaning for us. We heard it on bag pipes the morning our cruise ship pulled into Greenock, Scotland, played by a guy in full kilt regalia. He started playing shortly after I came upstairs to our state room with the news on my email that newborn Laura had indeed been confirmed as having Down Syndrome. We were both grieving that news, and then heard the song on the dock below and went out on our patio to listen. And we somehow both knew that it would be O.K.

I'm off to find that Kleenex now.

It's one of those songs that fits certain difficult situations well, and so I think there are probably a lot of people out there with a "special story" around that song.
