People have been talking a lot on my flist about the Buffy and Angel comics, which I pretty much ignored when they first came out owing to the fact that *my* post-Chosen and post-NFA canon was the fic I was writing myself or in a group effort. I tried to read the Buffy comics, I really did, but being an inexperienced comics reader, the short episodes and confusing illustrations made it hard for me to follow what was going on. But now that TD is winding down and the trade paper backs are becoming available, I'm wondering if I should give them another stab. For those of you who have read them, based on what you know about my personal fannish tastes, what do you think? Poll #1321329 Buffy and Angel comics poll

Ep 3.22 Graduation, pt 2 WILLOW: You're awake. ANGEL: You've been watching over me? Willow nods. Angel takes her hand and starts kissing it. WILLOW: Well, we've been taking turns. ANGEL: I thought--I thought I'd never see you again. I can't leave you. I was wrong. I need you. WILLOW: Oh! You mean you need Buffy! ANGEL: Willow? WILLOW: Yes, right! Willow! ANGEL: Where is she? WILLOW: She'll be back soon. Willow gets up and walks out into the main room where Oz is waiting for her. OZ: Any change? WILLOW: He's delirious. He thought I was Buffy. OZ: You too, huh? Episode 3.07 Revelations Xander: But we're the best of Buffy's bestest buds. She'd tell us. Buffy: (arrives behind them) Tell you what? Willow: About your new boyfriend, who we made up. Unless we didn't? Buffy: This was a topic of discussion? Oz: Well, raised, but never discussed. Cordelia: So, are you dating somebody or not? Buffy: I wouldn't use the word 'dating', but I am going out with somebody. Tonight, as a matter of fact. Willow: Really? Who? Faith: Yo, what's up? (nudges Buffy's shoulder) Hey, time to motorvate. Buffy: (puts her arm around Faith) Really, we're just good friends. Tags: btvs Current Location: Plin's couch mood: buffy-watching

From Reptile Boy: BUFFY: Well, say it. XANDER: I'm not gonna say it. WILLOW: You lied to Giles. XANDER: 'Cause she will. BUFFY: Look, I wasn't lying. I was just... protecting him from information that he wouldn't be able to... digest properly. XANDER: Like a corn dog. WILLOW: Like you don't have a sick mother, but you'd rather go to a frat party where there's gonna be drinking and older guys and probably an orgy. XANDER: Whoa! Whoa-ho-ho, rewind. Since when do they have orgies, and why aren't I on the mailing list? BUFFY: There's no orgies! WILLOW: I heard a lot of wild things go on at frat parties. BUFFY: Okay, you know what? Look, seven days a week I am busy saving the world. Once in a great while I wanna have some fun. And that's what I'm gonna have tonight. Fun! Tags: btvs mood: hungry

When you see this, post another Buffy quote in your LJ. Let's see how long this can go on. Ep 4.01, The Freshman Sunday: Slayer! Wow, uhm, I heard you might be coming here. This is, I mean, what a challenge! The slayer! BUFFY: And you are? Sunday: I'm... I'm Sunday, I'll be killing you here in a minute or so. BUFFY: You know that threat gets more frightening every time I hear it. SpicoliVamp: Uhh... are we gonna fight? Or is there just gonna be a monster sarcasm rally? FatVamp: I'm in for a piece. BUFFY: Everybody gets to play. Sunday: Guys, this is totally mine. SpicoliVamp: Ok, but you gotta share the eatin'. 'Cause I'm thinkin' slayer's blood's gotta be--Whoa!--like Thai Stick. "In January 2008 the Duke University Press will publish "Undead TV: Essays on Buffy the Vampire Slayer" edited by Elana Levine and Lisa Parks. The collection of essays come from media studies scholars, who tackle the Buffy phenomenon and its many afterlives in popular culture, the television industry, the Internet, and academic criticism. The writers engage with Sarah Michelle Gellar's celebrity image, science-fiction fanzines, international and youth audiences, Buffy pulp fiction, and Angel's body, showing how this primetime drama became a blockbuster that stands out from much entertainment television by offering sharp, provocative commentaries on gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, and youth. Recognizing that you run a Buffy fansite devoted to philosophical studies, we are very excited to offer you the chance to receive a free advance copy of this upcoming book. Please email me your current mailing address, and I will send a copy of "Undead TV" your way promptly." Tags: atpo, btvs mood: ooo

The other day, another person wrote asking if I was going to do ATPo analyses of the Season 8 comics. With the usual argument--"Joss says they're canon!" Yeah. Uh. Joss also once said spatulas were haunting him. Anyway, leaving aside the fact that a great deal of what's going on in the comics is just recycling of old villians (and not even the most interesting ones), in a medium (comics) where the sky *ought* to be the limit with new and interesting stuff from the master's imagination, one of the main points of ATPo analyses was to explain what the frig is going on in an episode (or issue) and I can't for the life of me figure it out! Every panel, I'm like..."*Now* where are we?!" "Who's that?!" "How'd we get from what was just going on to *this*?" "What are they *talking* about!?" If I can't understand it, I can't explain it, and... I suppose there's a part of me that wants Season 8 up at ATPo for completeness' sake, and that's why I'm even bothering to mention it. 'Cause, not impressed with it (the paranoid military story line's kinda cool, but still feels a bit recycled....) for the most part, and, I guess I'm one of those fans who was satisfied with season 7 being the end of the story. Ten years ago today.... "Welcome to the Hellmouth" aired for the first time. I was living in Montreal, teaching at Concordia University, my first job out of grad school. One day while waiting for a bus, I happened to wander into a newstand and pick up a sci-fi magazine to browse through while waiting--two things I never do, or hardly ever do, but it was fortuitous. In the magazine was an article about a new TV show. It was based on a gawd-awful movie, but the article made the show sound intriguing, so when Montreal's Y-TV (youth television) cable channel aired it, I watched "Welcome to the Hellmouth." I thought it was great. A little over a week later, I was invited down to the University of Nebraska, Omaha, for an on-campus interview with their department of Philosophy and Religion. I was so nervous about the interviews I didn't bring anything to entertain myself with. I was flipping through the channels in my hotel room in the evening before my big day on campus, and found a re-airing of "WttH/The Harvest." Yay! I was excited! This show had me hooked. Until they aired "The Pack." Ugh, that disturbed me so much I almost decided not to watch anymore. But then I gave it one more chance. The next episode was "Angel." And the rest, as they say, is history. Actually, quite a bit of history, with many tales to tell. But this was the beginning of what is still quite a ride. Where were you in '97? Help keep me awake, 'cause I'm falling asleep at my desk. === I have a very perplexing question Hi, you don't know me but I have a question that is driving me nuts. I watched and taped the final episode of Buffy. I live in Canada and I watched this episode on the Canadian Space channel. The very last scene, at the very end, after the credits, they show a hand popping up out of the ground. It's open, with palm towards to the camera. Then there's the sound of the violin screech they usually use right before something startling comes along. I know it's there, I've seen it, I have it on tape, but it's not on the Dvd, it's been removed along with the episode recaps that are at the beginning of each episode. Problem is people are calling me delusional because I've seen it and they haven't. I know I'm not delusional because I've had a conversation with my husband about it. Do you know what I'm talking about? Have you seen it? Do you know where I can find some proof that it's there? I'm at my wits end here because it's like nobody else has seen it at all... Thank you for any help that you may be able to provide. Tags: atpo, btvs, i get mail mood: tired
