Moving on

My mom was discharged from the hospital yesterday to an extended care facility she's stayed at before after one of her hip surgeries. She still has a way to go to heal--both with her GI tract (eating) and regaining what little mobility she had before this whole sleigh ride began.

Yesterday, I commented to the Sculptor, "I can't believe it's only been two weeks." Two weeks ago yesterday she went into the hospital in the first place for mysterious weakness and stomach aches. It feels a lot longer.

My morning writing practice continues, though some days I have to squeeze it in with everything else.

Great news! Hope she continues to do well in the rehab place. I know this is still really difficult for her and you.

Thanks.

She has good days and bad days, when she's more alert vs. more confused. I think she is just worn out from the whole affair. Who can blame her.

I took Monday off from work to put my feet up, and am looking forward to more feets up over the weekend. Between work and writing and mom-care, of course.

I'm so glad she's doing better! It is amazing how something like this can feel like a lifetime when it's really been a short time.

She is still on a catheter and bed-ridden, and they only took her off TPN all together the day before discharge. So I was a little nervous, but I had an extended conversation with the nursing staff about where she was with each area she needs help, so I feel better.

that's good. this is just as rough on the caregiver as the patient.

Well, I'm not sure it's "just as rough," but I admit I am beat.

Great news to hear. I'm sure it's felt like two months to her.

According to her, time doesn't exist in the hospital. She gets confused about whether it is day or night. She seemed surprised the weather had "warmed up so quickly." I think it's probably felt like less time or timeless to her.

How is your writing going? Fiction? Poetry? Taking a well-deserved break?

A break. And after today at work, I can't even imagine having the energy to try. Maybe this weekend I will read over some things. Priming the pump, so to speak.

I'm really happy for you and your mom.

Great news!!

BTW, I think I've gotten confused with your word-count %. Talk about a moving target! :)

I went from a goal of 10,000 words to 15,000 to 20,000 to 25,000 over the course of April as I completed each goal before month's end. That always set my total percent back a bit as my goal got larger.

Now that it is May, I am setting a goal of 100,000 to complete the entire draft.
