Banal but...

So I am apparently in the process of applying to refinance my house. I didn't think this would be possible for me, given how much my house has declined in value since I bought it (last year the loan lady at my bank laughed me right out the door). But I could whack a good two percentage points off my interest rate according to my current loan co.

Here's hoping.

In other news, the sleep study is back on. The policy that made my insurance co deny my request for the sleep study service was supposedly changed as of June 1st, so they could schedule me again. I checked the notice the insurance co sent me a couple months back, and it looks like the policy change has to do with not needing authorization before the service. I am not sure that's the same thing as "(not) requiring a certain diagnosis", which is the original reason they denied--I didn't have a sleep apnea diagnosis.

At any rate, they will have a couple weeks to deny again if there was some confusion.

In other news, I have an ant infestation in my work cube. They need to spray near the wall outside. In the mean time, I peppered my cube with ant traps that I bought on my own dime. The boss bought spray but has not sprayed it yet. Maybe this weekend?

This just in: my coffee maker died. The GF loaned me her french press since she's not much of a coffee drinker anymore. I am learning the delicate art of getting coffee right in it. Only major downsides so far are (1) the second cup is always cold and has to be nuked and (2) I can't get two days' worth of morning coffee out of one pot.

I am SO ready for my vacation.

Good luck with the refinancing.

I hope this isn't a 'gotcha.' At any rate, it sounds like you'll still try ahead of time to find out if they'll pay, which only makes sense. Telling you after you've got the bill they won't pay would certainly be no help.

They sent me a letter of denial before I ever stepped foot into the lab in May. Maybe because the doctor's office sent in the request for authorization?

Eep, maybe I should call them this time (ins co) to be sure.

good l uck with the refinancing

and with the sleep study. Dear insurance company you can't have a diagnosis of sleep apnea without the sleep study, not the other way around.

That's been my thought all along! It made no sense to me they'd require a prior diagnosis before a DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE.

Maybe they require a doctor's "suspicion of diagnosis"?

pretty much. What we would end up doing is putting in the code for the suspected diagnosis to ram in through. (the VA, being government health, you couldn't do that, sadly. You were just told to find a cheaper way)

Good luck! I looked into refinancing again a few months ago. The fees would have totaled almost 10K out of pocket, so we didn't.

I am told I will only need to bring 1,400 to closing. The rest of the fees will be absorbed into the total pay-off.

That's great. I think our refinance in ~'06 did that too.

You refinanced in 2006? Hell of a time.

No, it was fine. We dropped probably 2% and shortened the term. We saved a few hundred a month, and we maybe had to bring your amount to the closing.

Actually maybe it was earlier than 06. I should check. Hmm.

I'm not saving any $ per month, but my term is shorter and I'll save 87K+ on interest in the end.

I checked. It was 2003. How time flies.

2003 is even worse! That was nearly the height of the bubble.

I could NEVER sleep if I had an iPod or relaxation tape. I need sensory deprivation if I hope to doze off. The sleep mask is a good idea.
